For most people of faith, the experience of reading and studying together is a priceless one. The opportunity to learn from others as they share valuable insights can be a life-changing experience! Perhaps you are the leader of a home study group, and are looking for some new and interesting ways to explore your faith and the scriptures together. Here are some highly recommended resources for you to consider --
First up is a great series from InterVarsity Press: Christian Basics Bible Studies. These paperback study guides provide six separate sessions as they explore scriptural insights presented by contemporary Christian writers. The focus of this set of group Bible study guides is on learning the basics of the faith -- so this material would be great for a new converts class, as well as for use in high school and college youth group ministries. Subjects covered include prayer, knowing what you believe, character, finding God's will, and many other subjects. These study guides cost seven dollars each.
Another wonderful set of group Bible study guides is published by Zondervan publishers. It is called the Interactions Small Group Series. This material was originally developed by the ministry staff at Willow Creek Church. These are a wonderfully balanced set of studies that encourage people to deepen their relationships with others in the group, as well as learn more about their faith. Topics covered include being honest with God and others, developing deeper devotion to Christ, building relationships within God's family, and practical steps for spiritual growth. Each soft cover study guide is 96 pages in length and retails for just under eight dollars.
If you are looking for a group Bible study guide that provides a deeper examination of the scriptures, I would recommend that you check out The New Inductive Study Series by Kay Arthur. Published by Harvest, each of these study guides is a fact-filled 120 page treasure trove which uses her well-known inductive Bible study methods to help you understand entire books of the Bible. Current volumes in this series cover the Pentateuch, the historical books of the Old Testament, Proverbs, Daniel, some of the prophetic writings, the Gospel of Luke, Acts, and a number of the New Testament epistles. These group Bible study guides cost $6.99 -- $8.99.
Finally, I would like to recommend to you a great introduction to all the books of the Bible: it is called Through the Bible in One Year: A 52-Lesson Introduction to the 66 Books of the Bible. Written by Dr. Alan B. Stringfellow, this study guide is designed to be used throughout the year -- his lessons are presented in such a way that you will be able to read the entire Bible within just a year, and understand it as you read it. He touches on all the major subjects, key verses, key Bible characters and more. You could use this quite effectively in a small group -- discuss each weekly lesson together, having read the assigned portions of the scriptures during the previous week. It is very reasonably priced at just under $18 and is highly recommended by this writer.
